Subliminals – Meaning

Let’s dive into the wonderful world of Subliminals together. Let me explain to you some basic concepts of this world.

A description of subliminal messages

The term “Subliminals” is often used by people (in the subliminal community) to abbreviate subliminal messages, subliminal suggestions or subliminal information. In this context the word is used to describe some sort of information (visual, auditive, electrical…) that is presented to the mind, specifically the subconscious part of it, with the intent to change its properties. You can read some dictionary definitions and the origin of the word in the next section (Word Definition).

The basic premise of this system/technique is that the subconscious mind heavily influences all aspects of our lives and therefore determines our view of the world, experiences and awareness, in other words, our consciousness. It is our very own background/base/core program. This program has the ability to re-write itself according to the experiences the individual makes. And by re-writing it, we can actively use its immense cognitive power for our benefit, instead of having to fight against it. There is one caveat though, the conscious mind can’t easily re-program the subconscious mind. What is needed, in order to succeed, is … repetition! Or to bypass the conscious mind barrier reach directly into the subconscious, or even both methods at the same time…And that’s what we do, or at least try to do, when we use technology like subliminals, hypnosis, affirmations or electromagnetic waves manipulation.

Side note: For anyone of you who knows the TV series ‘Westworld’, I’ll give you a Westorld analogy on the functions of the and intercorrelations of our conscious and subconscious minds:
Our subconscious mind would be the underlying core programming of a ‘Host’. Which in our case comes of course with more leeway for improvisation (=conscious mind). But still, it heavily influences our behavioral patterns and also our personality to a degree. As soon as the core programming deviates from its original (very constrictive) state, drastic changes can occur. In other words, if you happen to successfully make changes to your core programming, so that it’s more beneficial to you and what you wish to achieve you could awaken to a completely new reality, like in Westworld.

In terms of scientific research into this topic, there were several experiments conducted and observations made and still are, from the 1940s until now, focused on the effectiveness of subliminals mostly in the area of marketing. It was quite popular for companies (especially the bigger ones) to utilize subliminal messages in their advertisement in various media (print, video, audio…). For instance, there could be 1-5 frames per second of a commercial video in which you can see a text that says something like “I like the ice tea of the brand X a lot more than the ice tea of brand Y!”. The goal was to influence people’s behavior towards buying the products/services of the advertiser and value their brand more than that of their competitors. This resulted in a legal ban of the use of subliminals in advertisement in the UK, America and Australia since 1958.

Scientific researchers create controlled scientific studies that mimic the abovementioned techniques to study how subliminals can effect our behavior.

Although the topic is controversial in the scientific field, you can find some good articles and rare studies on subliminals if you search for it on the internet. Just type in ‘subliminal study 1960’ for example. You can also find links on that topic in the Links section here at Subliminal Space.

There were some more advanced studies/tests made later in the 80s and 90s. These were lead by Oliver M. Lowery, with quite a different approach and different technology/appliances. Read more in the section Silent Subliminals.

Masked Subliminals

How affirmations become subliminal affirmations

From clearly audible to barely audible

Long story short, this is the ‘classic’ technique of subliminal creation methods. The ‘message’ or ‘suggestion’ is masked/hidden in the carrier of the chosen medium. This could be pictures or words in 1-2 frames in a 25 frames per second video clip, which can basically not be consciously perceived, but subconsciously very much so. In our case it is a voice track lowered in volume, edited, masked with other sound-tracks and mixed in a certain way, so that it should likewise be not consciously but only subconsciously perceivable by our brain.

This is the method we built our foundation on, not so much the silent subliminal technique, since it is way harder to achieve the circumstances that the researchers used to have in their laboratories at the time.

As of 2023 we mainly focus on masked subliminals and basically stopped producing silent subs for now. However, check the product description of each product to see which methods are used. Our methods could change over time.

Silent Subliminals

The meaning and history of silent subliminals

From barely audible to non-audible

In the 1980/90s a researcher called Oliver M. Lowery and his team conducted a number of experiments based on what they knew from previous research that have been conducted since the 40s (as explained above) and other important work. They also brought a very sophisticated skill set in electrical engineering and audio technology with them.
The basic idea of their research was to improve the method of delivery of subliminal information to ensure maximum effectiveness / impact on the subconscious mind, whilst keeping the comfort level of the user as high as possible. What this basically means is, they took the audible part (although on a very low volume and masked by foreground music and/or other sounds) out of the picture, so that you can either hear nothing at all, or a very faint high pitched tone if you have very good ears. Lowery developed various methods to present the brain with the desired information without using audible sounds. One method didn’t even use headphones or speakers but instead little electrodes that send electrical currents, produced by piezo electric crystals, directly into your body (brain). With these methods it is possible to bypass most external and internal interference caused by, for example, the conscious/thinking mind, the masking sounds, or damaged ear drums.
Their practical experiments based on Lowery’s concepts were allegedly very successful. Although it is quite hard to find anything about what was really going on, there is still a lot of information about how they did it (at least in the early stages). The corresponding patent to this technology (he called his invention the “Subliminal Presentation System”) is publicly available, because the patent’s duration wasn’t extended. One can only assume they found an even better working method and gave this one to the public, for interested people like us maybe.

To give you a little more specifics on this, I’ll let Oliver M. Lowery explain it to you by citing from his patent – patent no. US5159703A:
“A silent communications system in which nonaural carriers, in the very low or very high audio frequency range or in the adjacent ultrasonic frequency spectrum, are amplitude or frequency modulated with the desired intelligence and propagated acoustically or vibrationally, for inducement into the brain, typically through the use of loudspeakers, earphones or piezoelectric transducers. The modulated carriers may be transmitted directly in real time or may be conveniently recorded and stored on mechanical, magnetic or optical media for delayed or repeated transmission to the listener.”
“…It is the purpose of the following described invention to eliminate or greatly reduce all of the above deficiencies. Although its application to the magnetic tape medium is described in the following discussion, the technique is equally applicable to most other desired trans mission mediums, such as Compact Disc, videocassettes, digital tape recorders, Public Address (PA) systems, background music installations, computer software programs, random access memory (RAM), read only memory (ROM), “live”, real time applications and other mediums now in existence or to be developed in the future.

Very interesting, this patent was filed in 1989 and notice the terms he uses in the second part, he basically predicted where we are right now, technology-wise, which makes this document still relevant and valuable today in our digital age!

You can read and download the original patent from google patents (and other sites), link below. If you are interested in this topic I can highly recommend you to read more about Lowery and his research.

We at SubliminalSpace use this method, as well as the classic approach in our Subliminals sometimes even both simultaneously, in the same audio file. Please check the description of each product to see which methods are utilized.

Frequencies

Visible and invisible light and audible and inaudible sounds

Our explanation of frequencies

Based on the scientific practice of measuring our surroundings, humanity found a way to visually and mathematically display ‘everything’ in our surroundings. This can be done by imagining (and imaging) waves and waveform displays. We differentiate them by asserting their individual wave length (e. g. in nano-meters). We also can measure how many full cycles per time interval (usually 1 second) a wave completes – from neutral to top end, from top end to low end and back to neutral (cycles per time interval = frequency).

How we create Subliminals

In reference to all the information in the text above, we utilize various techniques to get to the finished product. The ones mentioned above are are all, or at least the basic idea behind them inspired a lot of what led to the first Subliminal audio file created by us.
